Choose your background
on going project Performance+Photo shoot in Public Space
Istanbul Tehran and Berlin 2006-2008
Amirali Ghasemi in order to realize Choose your background, combine digital photography with an analog medium of painted backdrop, taken from the early day of photography and portable photography studios.
Ghasemi for his intervention in public space, has to interact with people, present them to the idea and convince them to choose one of the six backgrounds ranging from Taj Mahal to Eiffel Tower and from Hagia Sophia to Brandenburger Tor and stand in front of it for a fast and informal photo shoot, inviting them to pose and to be playful for his purpose. And the result is there to share thanks to digital technology, visible on a small screen within a second. Those conversation and interaction between the photographer/performer and the audience is one of the key characteristic of his work.
For the exhibition "the other", Ghasemi creates a modest installation of photographs from those Berliners whom they choose Azadi (Freedom) Tower in Tehran as their background.
